ØØ5 New Projects
Hello y’all,
Hope you’re having an amazing August. This month is my wife’s birthday month which always brings a bunch of fun celebrations for us as a family. We were lucky enough to get to the local renaissance faire with some really good friends. Other than that we’ve been getting hit with a bunch of storms and humidity, so we’re trying to get outside when we can.
Figma Community
At the tail end of July, I had an opportunity to give a talk to an amazing Figma Community. We covered some of the really cool things you can do in Figjam.
I’m always really encouraged by how the design community gets together to share tips and knowledge.
Castlestein
I just started a new game project. This has been something that’s been in my mind and notebooks for a long time now. I find that whenever I work on a project I have about 100 ideas fighting for my attention.
This new game is called Project Castlestein for now. It’s inspired by Quake, Wolfenstien, Castlevania, and just retro 3D games. Something that I probably would have played when I was younger.
Narratively I don’t know where I’m going yet, I have some ideas but right now I’m just working on the look and feel. Once I’ve got that established, which I’m close to. I’ll start working on some of that classic FPS mechanics.
I’ll continually put updates here and on gamejolt. I have a goal to put a first playable demo out there with some of the core mechanics giving early access to close friends and subscribers to this newsletter.
Inspiration Central
This Oyster Farm series on Behance by Tom Hegen is absolutely fascinating. There are so many cool patterns and shapes, this first shot almost looks like an abstract newspaper or website wireframe.
Tobias Van Schneider released some really fun color palettes from his new product My Mind. Trying new color palettes is something I really appreciate, I feel so many products fall into blue or green.
I was just cruising twitter when this came across my feed, this is such a cool way to dynamically adjust the type and create something new. I love seeing new and innovative tools for touchscreens.
This is a bit of an older video, but I just started to explore who Jerry Lorenzo is and really captivated by his story. If you haven’t noticed I really enjoy listening to artists and designers talk about their processes and inspirations, and this video Jerry really unpacks a lot for us.
I’ve been listening to the new Billie Eilish album which is really good. This video has some real Lost Highway vibes, so if you’re a David Lynch fan this is a must-watch.
If you’re looking to connect with me and see more frequent updates on my game project hit me up on Instagram. I tend to post there at least 2 nights a week with some sort of update about the upcoming project.
If you like what I’ve been sending please feel free to share it with a friend
Till next time, take care!
